Success, Salesmanship, and Your ReInvention

There’s an old saying among peddlers, “If nobody sells, a terrible thing happens: Nothing.”

Simply put: without sales, there is no commerce.
“I don’t like selling,” you're saying.  “Selling is pushy,” you cry.

But that’s not true.  Steve Jobs was an amazing salesperson.  Apple would not have become what Apple is, were it not for Mr. Jobs’ salesmanship.

Was Steve Jobs pushy?  Of course not.  Granted, you’re not Steve Jobs, nor is your company likely to top Apple.  It doesn’t have to and that’s not the point.  The point here, is making you and your business thrive via improved salesmanship.

I categorize the sales effort into 3 activities:

  • Marketing = Telling the world what your brand does.
  • Advertising = Telling potential clients what your brand can do for them.
  • Selling =  Telling prospects, through personal contact, how your product or service benefits them, and then asking for their business

If you want prosperity and longevity for your business, the first thing you must do is shake your negative perception of sales. Actually that’s not true.  The FIRST thing you must do is make sure you have a sale-able product or service.  Because even the world’s greatest salesperson will struggle to sell a turd.

For example, if you’re trying to sell phone booths in the year 2017, it’s time to ReInvent.

After you ReInvent your product or service, launch your marketing, advertising, and sales effort.  Nobody knows about the new you until you tell them.  To be successful, your sales effort requires strategy, a budget, and most importantly work.  Many a small business — big businesses too— fail because they get complacent, which is just a polite word for lazy!   You’ve got to apply daily sales effort to keep your business thriving.
